![]() SGT Joseph Merritt is a Human Resource Specialist with the 2nd Battalion 10th Group Special Forces. Hi, my name is Shaune Merritt. I'm sending a salute out to my wonderful and amazing husband SGT Joseph Merritt. He is currently overseas fighting in the Iraqi Freedom War. He is stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado. SGT Merritt is a Human Resource Specialist with the 2nd Battalion 10th Group Special Forces. You are very missed and thought of every second of the day. You’re doing a wonderful thing serving your country and your family. We truly appreciate it all. On October 8th, we will be celebrating our one year anniversary and that stinks that you wouldn’t be here to celebrate it. But I love you and miss you very much and can’t wait for you to come home. Your babies miss their daddy and can’t wait to come home and give you kisses. You’re an amazing husband and son and I couldn’t ask for anything better. Iraq might have you but we have your heart. Don’t let your guard down and come home safe. - Shaune Merritt (and Carla Kennedy, his mother) See Shaune's salute as it aired on Morning Express: See all of your Salutes here. ![]() Julie Schleppegrell is a soldier and a mother and is looking at a life of Army service. In August of 2006, Julie Schleppegrell set off from Minnesota for basic training. After basic training and AIT, the family was reunited at Fort Bragg, NC where they still reside. It wasn't long after the reunion that her company was scheduled to deploy. Julie did a 15-month tour in Iraq and the time away was very hard on her and our family. There is an amazing strength in military families. We all pull together in the hard times. Everyone in our family puts in their fair share. Julie has returned and is now a Specialist (E-4) Active Duty with the 18th ABN Corp. She is looking at a life of Army service. She is an exceptional mother, attending school functions and bringing the children to special events put on by Child and Youth Services (CYS), Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR), and Army Community Service (ACS) here on Fort Bragg. - William Cody Schleppegrell See all of your Salutes here. Me and my fiancé are both in the U.S. Navy both stationed at NAS Kingsville, Texas. Jeremy Stack is a Corpsman 2nd Class and I am Brenda Acevedo, a Engineman 3rd Class. I will be getting out of the military one month before our wedding that will take place in January 2010 and Jeremy will continue his medical career, while I finish school (thanks to the G.I. Bill). I am writing because Corpsman have a high rate of deployment. In fact, he is on the deployment list for his clinic as we speak. When he does go overseas, (hopefully later than sooner) I just want to tell him I love him and wait for him with open arms. In 2005, he went to Iraq where he received a purple heart for injuries due to an IED explosion, but he is okay now. - Brenda Acevedo See all of your Salutes here. ![]() Senior Airman Spencer Jungclaus, his wife Corey and daughter Madilyn. This salute is from Kenneth Jungclaus to his son Senior Airman Spencer Jungclaus. Spencer just made a new rank (E-4 in less than 2 years). He is now Senior Airman Spencer Jungclaus. His wife Corey and daughter Madilyn (2 years old) are in North Dakota awaiting his return in October. He will have his 21st birthday (September) overseas. We are very proud of Spencer. He has had to make some very hard decisions over the past 3 years. He has given us a beautiful daughter-in-law and granddaughter. He is pursuing a degree in chemical engineering and would like to make the Air Force a career. During the floods in Fargo, ND in March 2009, Spencer volunteered to help sandbag the banks of the Red River. When home (in North Dakota) he plays percussion at their church and enjoys spending time with his family when not working or attending school. See all of your Salutes here. ![]() PFC Mauricio will be 21 on August 10th. This salute is from Veronica Gallo-Bambery to her son Mauricio Zumba, Private First Class for the US Army 277th Engineer Co. Mauricio has been with the Army since he turned 17 years old. He started as part of The JROTC in high school and his interest in the service increased. He started as a reserve but he signed up for active duty and left for Iraq at the beginning of 2009. He is an engineer for the 277th engineering company. He is persistent, determined, responsible, and friendly. He is also a good kayaking partner for daddy and a good kitchen assistant for mommy (he cooks the best brownies and the best tuna salad). He is very caring and no matter where he is, he is always sure to e-mail us or call us to let me know he is doing fine. His 21st birthday is on August 10th and even though he has been away from home for almost three years, this time not even our birthday card or presents will reach him in time because he is leaving on a mission. - Mom, Dad, Diego, and Gianna See all of your Salutes here.
