Salute to Senior Airman Garrett McGinnis

Posted: 12:28 PM ET

This salute is from Britney McGinnis to her husband Senior Airman Garrett McGinnis, U.S. Air Force.

Britney writes:
My husband is one of the best people I know. Garrett has been in the Air Force over 4 years. We just "celebrated" our 3rd wedding anniversary Dec 27th. He's an amazing father and leader. We have 2 children, Ryan is 2 years old and Connor is 16 days old. It's really sad he had to miss the birth of our second son due to this war. He won't meet Connor until May 2011. But we're very looking forward to him coming home to hold his new baby, and golf with Ryan.

New Navy Alert System online

Posted: 09:28 AM ET

So many military service members and their families visit the "Morning Express with Robin Meade" Salute to Troops blog each day, so we wanted to take a moment to pass on some important information from the NAVY about the "Shore Wide Area Alert Network" or WAAN. The WAAN can alert Sailors and civilians to many kinds of emergency situations and pass on vital information impacting anyone assigned to Navy installations.

If this is a tool that you think you or your family can use, visit the Commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic (COMNAVREG) website: http://www.cnic.navy.mil/cnrma or the COMNAVREG facebook page for more information. Feel free to pass this on to anyone you think could use these kind of alerts.

HLN would also like to extend an invitation to those of you visiting our blog for the first time to consider saluting a military member on Morning Express with Robin Meade! To submit a salute of your own visit the special Salute To Troops assignment page at: iReport.com! Or create your own salute and send it off immediately at sendasalute.cnn.com.

I'd like to salute my husband, CW4 Ken Linkous. Ken has served in the U.S. Army for nearly 25 years and is a pilot currently serving in Afghanistan. This makes his third deployment. Ken, I'm so proud of you. Thank you for all of the sacrifices you make. They do not go unnoticed. My love, support, and prayers are with you every day, honey. I beam just talking about you, and I miss you like crazy.

Be careful and be safe. I love you, honey – so very, very much!

Salute to Sgt. Vince Donahue, USMC

Posted: 11:24 AM ET

This salute is from Amy Dumas to her fiancé Staff Sergeant Vince Donahue, U.S. Marine Corps.

Amy wrote:
I am in the Army, serving my second tour of duty overseas, in Baghdad and Bagram. This shout out is for my fiancé, Vince, a Staff Sergeant in the Marine Corps who has walked beside me throughout my deployments, and been my strength on the home front. While I was home on leave in September, he proposed, and now we are planning an August wedding in Texas when I return. Being a dual military couple is difficult, but he is so kind and patient and supportive that it truly makes this deployment easier knowing I can count on him at home.
