November 3, 2011 Dad surprises sons... all scouts, they thought they were at the airport to earn a badgePosted: 11:09 AM ET
The look on their faces when they see Dad walking up to them is absolutely priceless. Three little scouts, Chance, Trent and Logan Raby put on their uniforms and went (with their Mom) to Hartsfield-Jackson International airport in Atlanta, to greet military men and women returning home from overseas. They believed that they would be earning a special scout badge by doing so. What they didn’t know is that their DAD, U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 P.J. Raby coming home from Afghanistan, was one of the soldiers getting off the plane! Tissues ready! This is a homecoming Salute to Troops with Savannah Whalen and Army Private Mark Whalen. Private First Class Mark Whalen was returning from Afghanistan for R&R. Robin talked to his wife Amanda before he arrived and she told us she was expecting. It was the first time he had seen his wife since they found out she was pregnant. We got a glimpse at their reunion and Robin got the chance to ask how they were feeling afterward. We are so thrilled to be part of this incredibly special moment. Senior Airman Keith Graft and Senior Airman Domenic Mash surprised their wives and MET their new babies today, LIVE on HLN's Morning Express with Robin Meade! It took about 6 weeks of planning to pull this off, and judging by the lack of dry eyes in the studio... it was worth it! Thanks to the United States Air Force Reserve Command for helping make this reunion possible! A mortar attack in Iraq in 2006 shattered Marine Sergeant Kenny Lyons' jaw, and cost him his leg. He says his mother never left his side while he recovered. So, he surprised her, by asking HER to cut the ribbon when he got the keys to his new house. Which was built in less than FOUR DAYS and comes mortgage-free, thanks to "Homes for our Troops." They build specially equipped homes for injured vets. Submit a salute to troops by visiting the special Morning Express with Robin Meade Salute To Troops assignment page at: iReport.com! Thanks to the viewers at West Point this past weekend where I was guest vocalist with pianist Jim Brickman. I was honored to dedicate my performance of "Welcome Home" to Captain Scott Smiley who I interviewed there before the show. Captain Smiley was wounded during an attack in Iraq that cost him his sight, and yet he continues to serve his country.
